Or maybe that’s just us, given we’ve both been in therapy for a considerable portion of our adult lives, and need to find our catharsis somewhere. Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote ( The Open House) wrote and directed Becky 2.Īngel and Coote said in a statement, “There’s nothing like a good revenge film. Lulu Wilson stars alongside Seann William Scott, Matt Angel, Courtney Gains, Aaron Dalla Villa, Michael Sirow, Denise Burse-Fernandez, Jill Larson, and Kate Siegel. But when a group known as the “Noble Men” break into their home, attack them, and take her beloved dog, Diego, Becky must return to her old ways to protect herself and her loved ones.” In the film, “Two years after she escaped a violent attack on her family, Becky attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman – a kindred spirit named Elena. The film has been making a bit of a resurgence and maybe even having a renaissance with horror fans newly appreciating the much-maligned techy horror film that followed Dorff as a New York City detective who investigates mysterious deaths occurring 48 hours after users log onto feardotcom. The film’s most amusing flourish is definitely the casting of Robert Englund as a concerned parent of a teenager, a clever bit of meta-irony if there ever was one.William Malone, a Master of Horror behind such films as Creature, House on Haunted Hill, and Parasomnia, once took a stab at mixing early internet tech with horror in FeardotCom, which starred Stephen Dorff and was released in theaters by Warner Bros. Strangeland is no classic, but it’s smarter than it has any right to be director John Pieplow also knows how to work the industrial-gothic atmosphere, and Snider delivers a not-bad performance as the killer (though you kind of keep expecting - and hoping - that he’ll suddenly burst into singing “Burn in Hell,” the Twisted Sister song performed briefly in Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure). However, years later, the bad Captain is released from a mental institution‚Ķ and proves to be rather dangerous when he doesn’t take his pills. The father of his latest victim (Linda Cardellini, pre- Scooby-Doo) happens to be a cop (Kevin Gage), who manages to bust the freak and put him behind bars. The scope of this brutal fable (which is oh so much tamer than the “torture porn” films that would be all the rage in the next decade) is rather epic, covering several years in the legacy of Captain Howdy (Snider himself), a body modification fetishist who lures young victims to his dungeon (via the aforementioned Internet chat rooms) and proceeds to do very bad things to them. Dee Snider’s Strangeland īefore Rob Zombie started making movies, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider penned this ahead-of-its-time tale of the dangers of Internet chat rooms.
